JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-- Kelsey Fleck notched 16 kills as seventh-seeded Carson-Newman shocked #2 Tusculum, 3-0 (30-24, 30-28, 30-27) in the first round of the 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament.

Carson-Newman (22-10) came out fired up in a loud Holt Fieldhouse. Tusculum defeated the Eagles in their two regular season meetings, but the Eagles hit an astounding .324 in the first game and held TC to a .122 hitting percentage for the match.

Kelli Sorensen added six kills while Allyson Corhn and Stephanie Cutter provided 22 and 14 assists, respectively. Salem Stepp led C-N with 14 digs while Sorensen contributed 12 for the Lady Eagle defense. Cutter had three service aces while Nikki James led the C-N block party with three putbacks.

For the Pioneers (24-10), Vivian Lacy led all players with 17 kills while Gina Coffaro and Kelsey Hayden had eight kills each. Mariana Rezende's 37 assists led TC while Lacy led the Pioneers with 10 digs on the night.

The Eagles advance to the SAC Tournament semifinals where they'll take on third seed Catawba, a 3-0 winner over Lincoln Memorial in the second afternoon quarterfinal match.
