JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-- The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles held off a feisty King College, winning 3-0 (30-28, 30-27, 30-27) in a non-conference match at Holt Fieldhouse Thursday night. C-N (17-6) trailed in the first game after King built a 21-14 lead. Carson-Newman proceeded to score the next 10 points to take a 24-22 lead on kills by Chelsie Woods, Stephanie Cutter, and Kelli Sorensen. The Eagles thwarted a King rally on a Kelsey Fleck kill and two King errors to win game one, 30-27. The Eagles hit a match best .268 in that game. In game two, a Sorensen kill gave the Eagles a 22-19 advantage, but King's Ryann Tillman notched a kill to pull King within two points at 26-24. Unforced errors by the Eagles tied the game at 26-26, but Woods notched two kills and Cutter added one of her own to give C-N a 30-27 win and a two-game advantage in the match. King would not go quietly in game three. Carson-Newman built a 29-18 lead after a Cori Bevering kill, but King scored the next nine points on kills by Morgan Machen and Whitney Turner. Fleck finally ended the Tornado rally with her 12th kill of the match for a 30-27 win. Fleck led the Lady Eagles in kills while Katie Troyer and Sorensen added 10 kills apiece.
