JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-- The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles held off a late Converse rally to post their second straight 3-0 win on Saturday.

C-N (9-0) won the first two games 30-21 and 30-20 as Kelli Sorensen and Salem Stepp keyed the Eagle offense with kills and service aces while Katie Troyer and Kelsey Fleck provided solid defense in the middle.

In the third game, Converse took advantage of C-N miscues to build a 21-19 lead. A Fleck kill gave C-N a 24-23 lead, but Converse rallied to tie the game at 26-26 before the Eagles earned three of the last four points to win the final game 30-26.

"Winning in this tournament is important for our confidence," assistant coach Philip Bennett said. "Katie [Troyer] in the middle was a strong player and Stephanie [Cutter]'s energy throughout the match and this weekend really helped to boost the team."

The Lady Eagles will travel to Greeneville, Tennessee to participate in the Tusculum College tournament. C-N will face Kentucky State and Barton College on Friday, September 7 and then Martin Methodist and West Liberty State on Saturday, September 8.
