Aug. 31, 2007 JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-- After defeating her sister Kerri's Lander team for the first time, Kelli Sorensen and her Carson-Newman teammates remain unbeaten for 2007. Carson-Newman defeated Lander, 3-1 (26-30, 30-16, 30-21, 30-23) for their second win of their Labor Day Tournament. Carly Mozgai led C-N with 14 kills, but the blocking of Nikki James and Kelsey Fleck paced the Lady Eagle defense that swung the momentum to their favor. James had five solo blocks while Fleck had five block assists. Salem Stepp had 14 digs while Stephanie Cutter paced the Eagle offense with 40 assists. "This win was an exciting win for the girls," assistant coach Julia Rafalowski said. "We played really well together and worked super hard. Blocking really raised the momentum for this match." Sorensen reveled in finally defeating her younger sister's team. "This win feels incredible," she said. "After two years of losing to my sister, it was payback. The win was a total team effort. We're 7-0 and ready to go." The Lady Eagles return to action on Saturday when they take on Mount Olive and Converse at 9:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m., respectively, to conclude the tournament.
