JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-- The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles won their first five-game match of the season, defeating region foe Augusta State, 3-2 (26-30, 30-21, 26-30, 30-14, 15-13) to improve to 6-0 on the season.

The Lady Eagles evened the match in game two. With the game tied 7-7, ASU scored four straight points, but a Katie Troyer kill and Haley Bush ace kept C-N in it . Kelli Sorensen added a kill of her own and an unforced error by ASU tied the game at 13-13. A Sorensen block and kill tied the game at 17-17. Allyson Corhn also keyed the Lady Eagle comeback with consecutive service aces. Carly Mozgai and Troyer provided the winning margin with kills for the 29th and 30th points, respectively.

After ASU went ahead two games to one with a game three victory, C-N scored the first five points of game four. Salem Stepp had two service aces in that sequence while Stephanie Cutter provided an ace of her own for a 7-2 Lady Eagle advantage. Troyer added another ace late in the game while Carly Mozgai and Nikki James sealed the game four win with consecutive kills.

In the decisive fifth game, a Troyer block and ASU attack error gave the Lady Eagles a quick 2-0 lead. Mozgai and Kelsey Fleck had a kill apiece to put C-N ahead 5-3, but ASU rallied to tie the game at 8-8. The Lady Eagles scored six of the next seven points and another Troyer kill gave C-N a 14-10 lead. ASU scored the next three points, the last on a controversial touch by C-N. Troyer ended any hope of an ASU comeback with the decisive kill to keep the Lady Eagles unbeaten in 2007.

"We went on consistency today," Troyer said. "We talked about how important this game was since it was a region game. We ran the same plays and just had to put it down."

"This was an awesome game to show our heart," head coach Shannon Mincey said. "The key was making [ASU] earn points instead of us giving it to them. Katie displayed all the attributes of being an All-Conference player. We just kept running the offense through her."

The Lady Eagles will look to keep their unbeaten streak going against Lander University on Friday afternoon at 4:15.
