HARROGATE, Tenn.-- Carly Mozgai had 27 kills in two matches while fellow newcomer Stephanie Cutter notched 47 total assists as the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles defeated Ohio Valley College, 3-0 (30-27, 30-20, 30-22) and Union College, 3-1 (21-30, 30-22, 30-25, 30-20) to improve their record to 3-0. C-N swept Ohio Valley in three games as Carly Mozgai led the offense with 13 kills. Senior Kelli Sorensen added 10 kills while Cutter contributed 20 assists. Nikki James' eight blocks paced the Eagle defense along with Salem Stepp's 11 digs. THe Lady Eagles dropped the first game to Union, but recovered for three straight wins to earn their third match victory. Kelsey Fleck and Mozgai had 14 kills apiece while James added four blocks. Sorensen's seven service aces led C-N in that category while Cutter earned 27 assists "Our team had a lot of energy today," head coach Shannon Mincey said. "Union was a very aggressive team and their setter mixed up their offense alot. That was a great match to end the tournament on. Our freshman played really strong this weekend and stepped up to make some big plays. This weekend helped us get into a groove and work together." The Lady Eagles travel to Bristol to take on NAIA rival King College on August 28. Match time is set for 6:30 p.m.
