JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The 25th annual ETSU Fall Tennis Tournament was held September 20-21, 2008 at Johnson City, Tennessee. Twelve teams from NCAA (I,II,III) and NAIA schools were present. Several Eagle tennis players turned in solid performances.
In men's play, Jack Harvie (junior from Statham, GA) went undefeated in singles and doubles. Harvie defeated two rival opponents from Tusculum College on his way to winning his singles flight. In doubles, Harvie teamed with Chris Acker (sophomore from Knoxville, TN) to win three matches and the title of their doubles flight. John Borthick (senior from Springfield, TN) and Kurt Hess (sophomore from Portland, IN) went undefeated in singles and won their respective flights.
Adriano Kira (sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil) lost in the finals of his singles flight. Chris Acker (sophomore from Knoxville, TN) won the third place singles match in his flight.
In men's doubles, the teams of Trent Slagle/Chris Acker (freshmen from Knoxville, TN) and Borthick/Harvie reached the finals of their flights before bowing out.
In women's play, Cassie Moulton (senior from Maryville, TN) was a finalist in her singles flight. Suzanne Brooks (freshman from Acworth, GA) lost in the semifinals of her flight but rebounded to win the 3rd place match.
In women's doubles, the doubles teams of Bartlett/Sneed and Cappadona/Brooks lost in the semifinals but rebounded to take the 3rd place matches in their respective flights. The team of Sorah/Moulton won the consolation bracket of their doubles flight with a win over a rival doubles team from Tusculum.
Both teams return to play on September 27-29, 2008 in Sumter, SC at the ITA/NCAA Division II Regional Tournament.
