BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University's women's tennis team shutout visiting Carson-Newman 5-0 in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships on Thursday morning. The Fighting Knights are looking for their 12th consecutive regional title in as many seasons of NCAA competition. Opening the match with a doubles sweep, Lynn (22-2) took an early 3-0 lead. The freshman duo of Alisson Siaci and Eleonora Iannozzi shutout the Eagles' (13-3) Emily Sorah and Stephanie Douglas 8-0 in the third position while No. 17 Katerina Jiskrova and Magdalena Ekert topped Elizabeth Sneed and Cassie Moulton 8-2 in the second flight. Fourth-ranked Alexandra Schunk and Victoria Weltz close out the doubles sweep with an 8-4 victory over Amanda Bartlett and Taryn Cappadona in the top spot. The Knights cruised to the win behind the strong play of Ekert and Iannozzi in the fifth and sixth slots, respectively. Iannozzi remained perfect on the day with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Douglas, finishing just minutes before Ekert downed Moulton 6-0, 6-1. Lynn led by a set in every unfinished match. Eighteenth-ranked Weltz led Bartlett 6-2, 3-0 in the top position, No. 17 Schunk was up 6-1, 2-1 over Cappadona in the second spot and 24th-ranked Jiskrova and Siaci each led their opponents, Sneed and Sorah, 6-0, 4-1 in the third and fourth slots. The Lady Eagles end their season 13-3 and won the first South Atlantic Conference title in school history.
