JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The top-seeded Carson-Newman Lady Eagles took advantage of a short-handed Mars Hill squad to pick up a 5-0 win in the first round of the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament. Carson-Newman (11-1) advances to face fourth-seeded Lincoln Memorial on Friday in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Mars Hill ends its season at 3-16. The Lady Eagles began the match with a 2-0 lead, after Mars Hill forfeited at both #3 doubles and #6 singles, because it had only five players. C-N, with a doubles point already in hand, won quickly at #2 doubles as Elizabeth Sneed (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Cassie Moulton (Maryville, Tenn.), beat Mars Hill's Paola Aybar Jimenez and Kim Blythe, 8-1. Sophomore Amanda Bartlett (Powder Springs, Ga.) and freshman Taryn Cappadonna (Kennesaw, Ga.) followed with an 8-4 win at #1 doubles over Patty La Rovere and Adriana Borda. Moulton would clinch the match with a win at #5 singles over Aybar Jimenez, 6-0, 6-1, edging out junior Emily Sorah for the point, who finished almost simultaneously. 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament At Jefferson City, Tenn.
