May 10, 2007 JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-- Carson-Newman leftfielder Katie Speaks has been recognized as a first team CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honoree. Speaks, a native of Manassas, Virginia, started every game for the Lady Eagles, hitting .361 with 15 doubles and 22 RBI. She has been named to the Carson-Newman College Dean's List after posting a 4.0 grade point average and is active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, leading a team Bible study. She is also a volunteer at the Lakeway (TN) Mental Retardation Center and organizes Wellness Steeple activities at Carson-Newman.
Speaks and her Eagle teammates will take on USC Upstate in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional tournament in Columbus, Georgia at 4:30 this afternoon.
