Jefferson City, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles softball team claimed the top spot in this week's NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional Poll.

C-N (48-6) leaps up three spots on the strength of a 4-0 run to the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament title last weekend in Newberry, South Carolina.

Overall, the Lady Eagles have won 19 straight games and are 7-3 against the current top ten (Wingate 3-0, Mars Hill 3-0, Lenoir-Rhyne 1-1, and Francis Marion 0-2).

While C-N earned an automatic bid in winning its conference tournament, the top eight teams in the final regional poll will receive NCAA Tournament invitations. Regionals will be held May 7-11 at on-campus sites.

While the 48 wins is a school record, currently the Lady Eagles are the beat team in South Atlantic Conference history in terms of winning percentage (48-6, .888). They are also tied for second in wins in a single-season.
