Jan. 18, 2007 Lady Eagles Defeat CSU, 2-1 JEFFERSON CITY, TN-- Rebecca Angus scored twice as the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles advanced to the NCAA Southeast Regional final with a 2-1 defeat of Columbus State. Carson-Newman (18-1) took the early lead when Angus lifted a shot past CSU keeper Monica Sanchez in the 18th minute to give the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead they would keep at halftime. C-N outshot the Lady Cougars, 23-8 in the match. Angus was injured midway through the first half when she collided with a CSU player, but returned in the second half. CSU fought back to even the match when Rachel Walthall found a patch of daylight and ripped a shot into the net for a 1-1 tie at the 65th minute. Both teams battled to keep possession, but in the 81st minute, Angus broke free and put a shot just beyond the reach of Sanchez into the net to give C-N a 2-1 victory. Nyssa Griffin saved three shots to earn the victory in goal for Carson-Newman. The Lady Eagles will take on SAC rival Tusculum in the regional final on Sunday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m. The Lady Pioneers defeated Armstrong Atlantic State, 1-0 in the first match of the afternoon. Tusculum defeated Carson-Newman, 3-2 on September 27 to give the Lady Eagles their only loss of the 2006 season.
