JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-- Danielle Tanner scored twice in the first half as Tusculum held off a valiant second half effort by Carson-Newman to defeat the Lady Eagles, 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament. C-N (14-5) outshot the Pioneers (14-5) 30-6 in the match, but couldn't find the net in the second half. Tanner opened the scoring with a goal off a rebound at the fifth minute. Tanner struck again with her second goal at the 19th minute off a Kelly Barron assist. The Eagles ended the Pioneer shutout in the 34th minute when Sage Sizemore launched a perfect strike into the far post to cut the TC lead to 2-1. The Pioneers staved off every C-N rally as Tori Hadjopoulos collected 12 saves. Nyssa Griffin and Melissa Terrell had two saves apiece for the Eagles. Carson-Newman will know on Monday, November 5 whether they will participate in the NCAA Southeast Regional tournament. TC advances to the SAC Tournament semifinals where they'll take on Lincoln Memorial.
