JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-- The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles remained perfect on the 2007 season with a 3-0 shutout of Concord University at McCown Field. C-N (2-0) dominated the match, outshooting Concord 31-3 with 14 corner kicks. Nikki Brennan scored the first Lady Eagle goal off a corner from Zarmena Kasparites in the 12th minute. The C-N defense allowed just one shot on goal in the first half en route to a one-goal advantage at halftime. "I was pleased with our effort," head coach Phil McNamara said. "We were a more experienced team. We asked for a goal off a set and a [shutout] and they were able to achieve them." In the second half, Kasparites got in on the goal scoring with a solid strike into the far post off a feed from freshman Kellie Gustin to give C-N the lead for good at 2-0. Sage Sizemore's goal in the 70th minute was the final tally for the Eagles who had 12 shots in the second half. Sophomore Shannon Clancy earned the shutout in goal for her first win of the season. Concord's Sarah Coelho saved 10 Lady Eagle shots in goal. The Lady Eagles will now take on Queens University of Charlotte and Pfeiffer University in two key region games this weekend at Mars Hill College. The Lady Eagles are currently ranked first in the Division II South Regional poll. "We're looking forward to three games in five days," McNamara said. "We haven't played Queens in a while and we're playing on astroturf there. We'll have to raise our game against two fine regional opponents." The Lady eagles take on Queens on August 31 at 6:00 p.m. and Pfeiffer University on Sunday, September 2 at 1:00 p.m.
