JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles look to build on recent momentum Saturday night when they host first-place Tusculum at Mossy Creek. Tipoff is at 6 p.m. Carson-Newman bounced back from its most disappointing effort of the season last Saturday against Mars Hill, and beat Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, 72-65. Junior Angela Volentine led the Lady Eagles with 18 points in the win, knocking down 10-of-10 free throws. Senior Emily Mason added 12 points and 14 rebounds, while Shari Buford chipped in 11 and six. As a team, the Lady Eagles buried 33-of-42 free throw attempts, overcoming 24 turnovers. Tusculum won the first meeting this season with Dean Walsh's squad, holding off the Lady Eagles 79-74 on January 19 in Greeneville. The Pioneers, behind a 23-point night by Jasmine Gunn, built a 48-28 lead early in the second half. C-N roared back to cut the lead to two at 74-72 with under a minute to play, but a three-point play by Gunn put the game away. Walsh returns to the sideline after a one-game absence. He missed Wednesday's game at L-R with illness. C-N begins a three-game homestand tonight. The Lady Eagles will host Brevard Wednesday and rival-Lincoln Memorial next Saturday night. While it has been less than a month since C-N last faced Tusculum, it will have been almost three months between meetings with LMU when the two teams play next Saturday night. NCAA Broadband: Saturday's game with Tusculum will be webcast (Audio/Video) by the NCAA - http://www.ncaasports.com/dii.
