JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-- Shanice Wilson hit a jumper with seven seconds remaining to give Anderson University a 71-70 victory over Carson-Newman Saturday night. The Lady Eagles (4-5) led by as much as seven points in the second half. A Shari Buford three-point play gave C-N a 50-43 lead with 12:55 remaining in the game. The Lady Trojans (5-1) rallied on a Nikki Anthony layup and Whitney Ketner jumper to cut the C-N lead to two points at 57-55 with 6:30 left. Ketner hit a trey to give Anderson the lead, but consecutive layups by Emily Mason and Tashea Ledbetter gave Carson-Newman a four-point advantage. Anthony's three-point play with just more than two minutes left cut the Eagle lead to one at 67-66. After Ledbetter made one of two free throws, Latrice Thomas swished a trey for a 69-68 Trojan lead. Ledbetter responded with a fall away jumper for a 70-69 Eagle lead, but Wilson found an opening in the Lady Eagle defense and made the game-winner. Ashley Tipton led all scorers with 23 points and was six-of-nine from three point range. Her six treys are one short of tying the Carson-Newman single game record. Buford added 17 points while Ashley Kyle and Mason added seven points each. Anthony led the Lady Trojans with 19 points. Ketner contributed 13 points while Thomas added 12 and Wilson collected 11 points. The Lady Eagles will next take on Pfeiffer University on Saturday, December 15 at 6:00 p.m.
