North Georgia Holds Off Lady Eagles, 91-83

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - North Georgia College & State University used double-digit scoring from four players to move to 3-0 as they knocked off Carson Newman 91-83 in the second game of the Lady Saints Classic here Friday evening in Memorial Hall.

North Georgia got off to a fast start just 3 seconds into the game when Krystyn Young knocked down a three-pointer off a pass from Singlton. Megan Huffman answered with a three-pointer of her own just two minutes later as the Lady Saints took a 6-2 lead.

After the Lady Eagles' Lindsey Eggleston made a driving layup to tie the game 12-12, the Lady Saints went on a 9-2 run over the next two minutes capped by another three-pointer from Huffman to make it a 21-14 game with 11:22 remaining in the half.

Over the final seven minutes, the Lady Saints came on strong and used a 15-4 run to end the half, including a layup by Brooke Baker to make it a 45-32 game at the break.

The beginning of the second half saw the Lady Eagles make a run and cut North Georgia's lead to just five points off a jumper by Ashley Tipton to make it a 49-44 game. The Lady Saints would answer with a run of their own and extend the lead to 13 points at 62-49 off a pair of Singleton free throws with 12:42 left in the contest.

Carson-Newman would make one last run at North Georgia with under three minutes to go as Tipton buried a three-pointer with 2:56 left to cut the Lady Saints lead to just three at 77-74.

The final three minutes however belonged to the Lady Saints as they refused to give up the lead and ran away with a 91-83 victory to get by Carson-Newman for the second time this season.

Ashley Kyle led the Lady Eagles with 15 points, while Angela Volentine and Tipton each added 14.

For the Lady Saints balanced scoring attack, Singlton led all scorers with 27, Syretha Marble added 22, Huffman chipped in 20, and Young rounded out the double-digit scoreres with 18.
