Courtesy: Catawba Sports Information Office SALISBURY, NC-- Catawba made five of seven free throws in the final minute and defeated 20th-ranked Carson-Newman 61-57 in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action at Goodman Gym. Catawba improves to 15-5 overall and 5-3 in the SAC, while the Lady Eagles fall to 16-3 and 6-2. Catawba used a 9-0 run in the early stages of the second half to grab a 40-31 lead and held on the rest of the way. The Lady Indians led 48-39 with 7:08 remaining, but Carson-Newman rallied to within four at 50-46 on a three-pointer by Cassie Burks. Casha Foster cut the Tribe lead to 56-52 with a pair of free throws with 1:07 to go, but Tamekia Foster made two from the stripe with 38 seconds left and after a turnover Ne'Keithia Howard added one of two with 22 seconds remaining for a 59-52 edge. Tipton and Holbrook led the Lady Eagles with 12 points apiece. Holbrook scored her dozen on four three-pointers. Shari Buford pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. The Lady Eagles return to action on January 31 at Holt Fieldhouse against Newberry.
