Feb. 20, 2008 JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman outrebounded Brevard 49-22 to fuel a 72-50 win in Jefferson City Wednesday night. The Lady Eagles collected 19 of their own 29 misses to dominate the Tornados on the boards and avoid back-to-back home losses. Shari Buford led C-N with 20 points and seven rebounds. Emily Mason added 17 points and 13 rebounds. Carson-Newman (13-11) never trailed in the win. The Lady Eagles built a quick 8-3 lead and never looked back. C-N pushed its margin to double-digits at 16-6 on a layup by Buford at 15:12 mark of the first half. Buford finished 10-of-13 from the floor. The Lady Eagles used a 10-2 second half run to put the game out of reach. Tykira McDaniel and Tashea Ledbetter each had buckets in the spurt. The Tornadoes had a tough time with the Lady Eagle zone defense. C-N packed it in, and Brevard hit only 7-of-40 three-point attempts. Senior Holly Krogman led Brevard with 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Samantha Winn added 10. Carson-Newman returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Lincoln Memorial at 6 p.m.
