Jan. 6, 2008 JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Angela Volentine's almost-perfect night wasn't enough to help Carson-Newman keep up with Newberry's Tonique Frasier. Volentine finished with 15 points, on 7-of-8 from the floor, but it wasn't enough to keep the Lady Eagles from falling to Newberry on Saturday night in Holt Fieldhouse, 66-53. Frasier led the Lady Indians with 26 points, on 10-of-13 from floor, and 12 rebounds. Carson-Newman (6-7, 1-1 SAC) jumped out early, leading 11-4 in the opening minutes. C-N held the lead the entire first half, but saw its' advantage shrink to 30-29 at the break. Newberry (10-3, 1-1 SAC) seized the lead immediately in the second half, as Carnicha Bellinger knocked down a quick three. The Lady Eagles, mainly Volentine, surged ahead again at 40-37, after the North Platte, Nebraska-native knocked down a baseline jumper. It was Volentine's eighth-straight point. Newberry answered, as Frasier began to heat up. The senior had eight of her teams next 17 points to help the Lady Indians build a 60-49 lead. Lindsey Eggleston (Buena Vista, Colo.) added 10 points for the Lady Eagles. Sophomore Shari Buford (Hampton, Ga.) managed only four points, playing limited minutes because of injury. The Lady Eagles are off this week. They return to action next Saturday, when C-N will travel to Mars Hill, North Carolina to face Mars Hill College.
