JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-- The Carson-Newman Eagles defeated Spartanburg Methodist 36-3 in the Eagles' first home match of the 2007-'08 season. Twins Kody and Kent Pierson set the tone for the Eagles by winning the 125 and 133 lb matches, respectively. Kody posted a 10-4 victory while Kent won 17-6 to give the Eagles an early 7-0 advantage. Justin Browning earned two points with just seconds remaining in the first period of his 141 lb. match to earn a 3-1 win. Kurtis Hess posted two reversals and an escape for a 5-4 victory while Mike Rogers enhanced his status as an All-American with a 16-0 technical fall victory at 157 lbs. Justin Ransom continued the Eagle winning streak with a 20-10 victory in the 165 lb. match while Marcus Lopez scored the first pin of the match for a 28-0 Eagle advantage. Josh Sprewell dropped a hard-fought match in the 197 lb. division while Tom Minwell posted a 14-2 win to close out the meet. The Eagles will next travel to Newberry College for a December 15th meet with Newberry, Mankato State, Chadron State, and Belmont Abbey.
