GREENEVILLE, Tenn.-- A penalty shot scored by Tusculum's Telmo Dantes at the 88:14 minute mark gave the Tusculum men's soccer team (6-6-2, 3-1-1 SAC) the 3-3 tie with No. 10 Carson-Newman (10-1-2, 3-1-1 SAC) Tuesday night at Pioneer Field. Carson-Newman trailed the Pioneers 1-0, but Chris Collins and Lars Holstad revived the Eagle offense with unassisted goals at the 25th and 37th minutes, respectively, for a 2-1 advantage. In the second half, TC's Telmo Dantes scored to even the match at 2-2 in the 75th minute, but the Eagles reclaimed the lead after an own goal by Tusculum in the 82nd minute;however, C-N committed a penalty in the goal box, allowing Dantes to score a penalty kick goal in the 88th minute to tie the game at 3-3. TC had seven shots in the combined overtime periods but could not get a goal past Carson-Newman goalie Jordan Moore who had 10 saves. Pioneer goalie Lance Moore stopped 10 Eagle shots. The Eagles managed just one shot in both overtime periods. The Eagles return to McCown Field to take on Wingate on Sunday, October 14 at 3:00 p.m.
