Thomas Ostvold Scored First Goal Of 2007 In 5-0 Shutout

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-- The Carson-Newman Eagles cruised to victory over Salem International, 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles (5-0) shut out SIU in every way by not allowing a goal or shot on goal in the match. Omar Cooke opened the scoring in the 12th minute off an assist from freshman Lars Holstad. Cooke then scored his fifth goal of the season in the 19th minute off a feed from Ale Oliveira for a 2-0 Eagle advantage.

Freshman Faisal Chibsah scored the first goal of his Eagle career in the 20th minute by outmanuevering three SIU defenders and firing a shot in the upper right corner to give C-N a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Brad Holdren continued the Eagle onslaught in the second half by taking a pass from Kapil Davis into the net in the 60th minute. All-South Atlantic Conference defender Thomas Ostvold secured the shutout in the 76th minute with his first goal of 2007 for the final 5-0 tally.

The Eagles will face their third straight opponent from the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference by taking on the University of Charleston on Friday, September 7 at 5:00 p.m.
