JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Head golf coach John Minor announced today that Holly Cantwell will join his staff as Assistant Coach for Women's Golf.

Cantwell, a Morristown native, will serve as coach for the first women's golf program in school history. Carson-Newman announced in September it would add women's golf as its 17th NCAA Division II sport. Women's golf is one of 14 championship sports sponsored by the South Atlantic Conference.

"Holly will be one of the keys to Carson-Newman's start in women's golf," Minor said. "She's has been a part of collegiate golf at the highest level, and we're thrilled with the experience she brings to C-N."

Cantwell joins the C-N staff after spending four years as a standout at the University of Tennessee.

As a Lady Vol, Cantwell helped lead her team to the 2006 NCAA East Regional title. One of her top individual finish came at the 2006 Southeastern Conference Championships, placing 12th. She also finished 8th at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championships in 2004.

"She was a consistent and dependable contributor a Tennessee," Minor said. "We're thrilled to have someone like Holly on board with this program."

While at Tennessee, Cantwell was equally impressive off the course, performing well in the classroom and serving the community. For her efforts, she was named to the SEC Good Works Team, as well as earning Academic All-SEC honors. As a senior, she earned National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Academic All-America.

Cantwell is familiar with Carson-Newman, and the surrounding area. She attended nearby Morristown West High School, where she led the Trojans to a state title in 2003, while capturing state medalist honors on her own. She was named the East Tennessee High School Player of the Year as a senior.
