KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C.-- Sophomore Brad Robinson fired a second-day 76 during a windy final round at the Cougar Point Golf Course to help the Carson-Newman Eagles finish in a tie for seventh at the Kiawah Invitational. The Eagles combined to fire a 312 on Tuesday, and finished the two day tournament at 602. The seventh-place finish serves as a solid start to the fall portion of the Eagles' schedule, considering the competition. Oklahoma Christian, ranked second at the NAIA level, took the team title, shooting a 293 on Tuesday to finish at even par with a 576. NCAA Division II powerhouse Armstrong-Atlantic State finished second, posting a 579, followed by North Alabama at 582, and three-time national champion USC-Aiken at 584. "This was a good first tournament for this young, talented team. Carson-Newman head coach John Minor said. "We'll improve, play more relaxed, and play in the wind with more control in Orlando." Armstrong-Atlantic State's Chris Wolfe took the individual title, following up Monday's 65 with a final round 68 (-4) to finish at 11-under. Individually, Carson-Newman was lead by Brad Robinson. Robinson, a Costal Carolinal transfer, finished in a tie for 13th at 146 (+2). The highly anticipated debuts of heralded freshman Blake Howard and John Minor Jr. proved to be worth the wait. Both posted solid scores Monday, helping the team to its low-round at Cougar Point Golf Club. Tuesday's high winds proved to be more of a challenge. Minor fired a 79 for a two-day total of 152 (+8), finishing tied for 30th . Blake shot 81, for a 154 (+10) and finished tied for 40th.
Senior Tyler Lane shot a 78, for a two-day total of 153 (+9) T-33rd. Lane finished secondat the Kiawah Invitational in 2005. Teammate Cory Hinchey contributed a 79 on day two, and also finished tied at 33rd.
