March 30, 2007 BIRMINGHAM, AL-- The Carson-Newman Eagles finished in fourth place at the Birmingham Southern College Invitational, a tournament which featured many Division I schools. Dane Fairfield finished the tournament tied for second place. After shooting an opening round 73, Fairfield finished the final two rounds with a one-under 71 and two-under 70, respectively, to finish the Invitational at two-under par. Chad Grubb and Chase Osiowy finished in the top 30. Grubb's second round 70 and final round 77 placed him 21st for the tournament while Chase Osiowy shot consecutive rounds of 75 to finish tied for 26th place. Tyler Lane finished tied for 33rd with rounds of 75, 78, and 78 and Cory Hinchey's 53rd place finish rounded out the Eagle contingent. The Eagles finished ahead of Division I schools such as Bradley, Eastern Illinois, host Birmingham Southern, Nicholls State and Centenary. "I was very pleased with our performance," head coach John Minor said. "Our guys played with a lot of intensity and I believe this will help us as we prepare for the Rendelman tournament."
