March 30, 2007 TAZEWELL, TN-- The Carson-Newman Eagles golf team finished the fall season with its best showing of the year. The Eagles posted a two-day 612 in brutally cold, windy conditions to win the LMU Fall Invitational at Woodlake Golf Club in Tazewell, Tennessee. "This team is growing and we're excited about the spring," said Carson-Newman golf coach John Minor. "They played two days in challenging weather and showed the passion to compete. This win is big for us." Senior Dane Fairfield (Santa Rosa, CA) and freshman Corey Hinchey (Abingdon, Va.) led the Eagles, tying each other for third with a two-day score of 151 (+7). Hinchey had the best round of the tournament for C-N, firing a one-over 73 on day two. Fairfield was steady throughout, posting 74-77 for his two rounds. "Those two really led us this week," said Minor. "Those are solid numbers in these conditions. Neither guy gave up on their team and you had to fight for every stoke out here." Freshman Chase Osiowy (Calgary, Alberta, Can.) finished the tournament at plus-11, posting a 155. Junior Tyler Lane (Dayton, Tenn.) and Junior Chad Grubb (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished tied for 18th, each shot 156 (+12) for two days. The Eagle win was the second straight impressive finish to close the fall schedule. C-N finished second last week at the Queen City Shootout in Concord, North Carolina. "It was a pleasing finish to the fall season," said Minor. "We've had to play through brutal conditions the last two tournaments and this momentum will really be good for us when the spring rolls around." The LMU tournament completes the C-N golf team's fall 2006 season. Woodlake Golf Club Tazewell, Tennessee Par 72 - 6,771 yards Team Results
