ORLANDO, Fla. - The Carson-Newman Eagles turned in a two-day 590 (+14) to finish 10th at the Fourth Annual Coker College Invitational Team Championship played Monday and Tuesday in Orlando, Fla.

The Eagles fired a team 290 on Day 2 to move out of last place in what was an extremely competitive tournament. C-N finished just two strokes behind NCAA National Tournament participant and SAC-rival Newberry.

C-N would finish just 10 strokes out of third and six strokes out of fourth. A strong Day 2 and competitive showing against a strong field was encouraging to Eagle head coach John Minor.

"We started slowly and hit some poor shots the first day," said Minor. "I liked the way we played the second day. We struggled in the rain the final few holes and gave back a few shots, but this team has a chance to be pretty strong. This was just our first tournament."

Junior All-American candidate Brad Robinson (Johnson City, Tenn.) was C-N's top finisher, including a second day 70 to finish in a tie for 16th.

Florida International-transfer Adam Holt (Liverpool, Eng.) has a strong showing in his first tournament as an Eagles, shooting 72-75 for a two-day 147, finishing a stroke behind Robinson.

Sophomore Blake Howard (Johnson City, Tenn.) rebounded with a 70 in Round 2, after shooting 80 the first day to finish in a tie for 44th. Sophomore Cory Hinchey (Abingdon, Va.) finished 52nd with a 152 (+8), and Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ire.) finished in a tie for 53rd in his first collegiate tournament with a two-day 153.

The Eagles return to action next week at the State Farm-Laker Collegiate Invitational in Hampton, Ga. Hosted by Clayton State.
