JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. The Carson-Newman Eagles fought through two rounds of tough conditions to finish 10th at the 2008 Bobcat Invitational today (March 24) at the Golf Club at Cuscowilla in Millegdeville, Georgia. The Eagles fired a 54-hole total of 927, finishing nine strokes back of host Georgia College and State for the ninth spot. Sophomore Brad Robinson and senior Tyler Lane were C-N's top finishers. Each fired 227 in the event, finishing tied for 19th. Monday's scheduled 36 holes were the toughest conditions the Eagles have faced this season. "We played in a two-club wind, on a tough course with hard, fast wind," said Eagle head coach John Minor. "It was like playing in a U.S. Open. Good scores were not there to be had." Sophomore Cory Hinchey fired a 236 for the tournament, finishing in a tie at 50th, while freshmen Blake Howard and John Minor, Jr. fired 237 and 246 respectively. "We had too many highs and lows," said Minor. "I saw some things I liked, but the consistency still isn't there throughout our lineup." With three individuals in the top-10 to help them lead throughout, the University of West Florida men's golf team won the tournament. UWF shot a 291-288-295=874 on the par-70, 6,847-yard course, besting runners-up Sonoma State University and Columbus State University by 29 strokes. Rounding out the top-five were Valdosta State University in fourth and USC Aiken in fifth. The Eagles return to action at the 2008 Carolina Sands Invitational in Elizabethtown, N.C. The two-day, 36-hole event will be played at the Carolina Sands Country Club.
