Oct. 5, 2007

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- One game at a time.

If you ask Carson-Newman Head Coach Ken Sparks, looking ahead is not an option.

"We're focused on (Mars Hill)," Sparks said. "The most important game is the next one, and we play a good football team."

The 7th-ranked Carson-Newman Eagles (5-0, 1-0 SAC) travel across the state border to Mars Hill, North Carolina on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff at Meares Stadium with the Mars Hill Lions. The game will be the first Eagles' frist South Atlantic Conference road test for Sparks' squad.

"The last time we came over here, we turned it over seven times," Sparks said. "The first thing you have to do on the road is take care of the football."

C-N remained unbeaten with a 49-19 win last Saturday at home against then-9th ranked Newberry. The Eagles used four second-half touchdown runs to pull away after leading 21-19 at halftime.

Mars Hill (4-1, 0-1 SAC) enters the game off its first loss of the season, a 45-21 defeat at the hands of the 13th-ranked Catawba Indians on September 27th.

Carson-Newman returns home next Saturday for homecoming. The Eagles welcome catawba to Burke-tarr Stadium for a 3 p.m. kickoff.

RADIO: The game will be broadcast on WRJZ-AM 620 (Joy 620) in Knoxville. Zeke Beam will provide the play-by-play, and Jeremy Ball the color commentary. Eagle Radio Network pregame coverage begins at 1 p.m.
