Aug. 16, 2007 JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-- The Carson-Newman Eagles played their second scrimmage Thursday night at Burke-Tarr Stadium. The Eagle defense forced several fumbles while the offense took to the air for some impressive plays. On the third offensive series of the game, Alex Rouse found wideout Reggie Hubbard for a 42-yard touchdown reception. Later in the game, redshirt freshman Doug Belk tossed two TD passes; however, the Eagle defense recovered four fumbles, one of those a 22-yard TD return by DJ Rankin. "We have a lot of work to do offensively," head coach Ken Sparks said. "We were not as sharp tonight, but the defense continues to take the ball away." Caleb Sorrells capped another offensive drive with a 10-yard quarterback keeper. The scrimmage capped a busy day for the Eagles as they participated in Media Day earlier in the afternoon. "I'm pleased with our progress," Sparks said. "I was a bit disappointed with our kicking game. We have to get some guys healthy, but we have a good attitude and accomplished a great deal in 10 days."
