Six Players Named All-SAC

ROCK HILL, SC-- Six Carson-Newman football players were named to the All-South Atlantic Conference team. Offensive lineman James Peremenis is the lone C-N representative on the first team while five others were named to the second team.

Peremenis was a member of an Eagle offensive line that generated 3,420 yards of total offense in 2006, an average of 5.3 yards per play. Fellow lineman Nate Skellenger earned All-SAC second team honors. Junior linebacker Eric Rice also earned All-SAC second team honors. Rice led the Eagles with 73 tackles on the season, including 17 tackles for loss and seven sacks. He recovered three fumbles and forced two fumbles this season. Safety Brandon Walden earned All-SAC recognition. Walden made 49 tackles and intercepted four passes, forced two fumbles, and had seven tackles for loss. Anthony Toribio made the All-SAC second team as a defensive linemen. Toribio garnered 12 tackles, including two sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss. All-SAC second team punter David Brentz averaged 40.3 yards per kick and booted a 66-yarder in the Eagles' season opener against Webber International on August 31. 23 of Brentz's 49 kicks were downed inside the 20 yard-line.

Carson-Newman completed the 2006 season with an 8-3 record. The Eagles placed fourth in the South Atlantic Conference with a 4-3 record.
