Killings To Speak At C-N Football Banquet Saturday Night

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman will honor its 2007 South Atlantic Conference Champion Football Team Saturday night as it hosts its' football banquet.

Former Eagle and current Houston Texan Cedric Killings will be the keynote speaker. Killings was an All-American at Mossy Creek in the late '90's. His name became well-known throughout football early this season when Killings was carted off the field in a game against the Indianapolis Colts in late September.

"Cedric has been through a lot," Carson-Newman head coach Ken Sparks said. "He's gone from a tough situation in Miami to being an All-American (at C-N).This year he's been through even more and continues to fight back. We're excited he's here and our guys will learn from him."

Seniors Will Moreland, Caleb Sorrells, and Eric Rice will speak at the banquet, as will junior Denares Waites.

Cactus Bowl: Senior Eric Rice has a busy 24 hours.

Rice will participate in the Cactus Bowl tonight in Kingsville, Texas. He will play at both linebacker and safety for the East Team in the all-star game.

Rice will return to Jefferson City tomorrow to attend the banquet.

The Thomasville, Georgia-native led the Eagles with 48.5 tackles and five sacks. He was named the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Year for 2007.
