Morris, Rice Take C-N Athlete of the Year Honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Senior linebacker Eric Rice (Thomasville, Ga.) and junior cross-country standout Aubrey Morris (Chattanooga, Tenn.) were named Eagle Club Male and Female Athletes of the Year at Carson-Newman's 2007-'08 All-Sports Banquet held Tuesday night on the C-N campus.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman wide receiver James Banks (Indianapolis, Ind.) and defensive tackle Anthony Toribio (Miami, Fla.) both signed contracts with NFL teams today. Banks signed with the Cleveland Browns and Toribio with his hometown Miami Dolphins.

JEFFERSON CITY - The Carson-Newman football team concluded three weeks of spring workouts Wednesday evening with the annual "Orange and Blue" intra-squad scrimmage at Burke-Tarr Stadium.In a turnover-marred contest, it was the passing of Maryland transfer Joel Statham that proved to be the difference as the Orange team cruised to a 23-7 victory.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Eagles will hold their first football scrimmage of spring practice on Tuesday at Burke-Tarr Stadium.The scrimmage will begin at 3:45 p.m. and is open to the public.The Eagles held their first two practices on the weekend, working out for the first time on Friday afternoon, followed by a two-hour session on Saturday morning. JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman Head Coach Ken Sparks' announced today that Dan Redding and Eric Solomon have joined his staff.Both are back for their second stint with the Eagle program.Redding returns after a spending the last two seasons at Southeast Louisiana (FCS) as the defensive line coach. He spent 16 years on Sparks' staff before leaving after the 2005 season. He will serve as the defensive line and strength and conditioning coach for the Eagles.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman will honor its 2007 South Atlantic Conference Champion Football Team Saturday night as it hosts its' football banquet.

Former Eagle and current Houston Texan Cedric Killings will be the keynote speaker. Killings was an All-American at Mossy Creek in the late '90's. His name became well-known throughout football early this season when Killings was carted off the field in a game against the Indianapolis Colts in late September.
