ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman junior Bobby Guyton (Jessup, Ga.) has been named South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, league officials announced today. This is the first time the season an Eagle has won the award. Guyton averaged 16.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in leading the Eagles to a 2-0 week. In a 129-123 overtime victory over Catawba at home Wednesday, Guyton tallied 17 points and 17 rebounds before a 15-point, six-rebound effort versus Newberry (a 92-89 win) on the road Saturday. He finished the week shooting 60 percent (15-of-25) from the floor, adding five steals and five blocked shots. Guyton, who averages 10.6 points and a team-leading 6.2 rebounds per game, has helped Carson-Newman to a 14-4 record and a 6-2 mark in league play. Carson-Newman returns to action on Wednesday night at North Greenville for a 7 p.m. tip.
