HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--The Carson-Newman Eagles flew out of Spragins Hall with an 86-69 win over Alabama-Huntsville on Monday night. C-N's win snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Chargers. Bobby Guyton had a career-high 19 points and nine rebounds. Jesse McMurray added 12 points, all from behind the arc, and Zach Hyatte contributed 10. Guard Cameron Sharpe narrowly missed a double-double, tallying nine points and nine assists. The Eagles (2-0) set the pace early shooting a torrid 56 percent (18-for-32) from the field and 53 percent from 3-point range in the first half. The red-hot shooting resulted in a 48-33 halftime lead for Carson-Newman. The Chargers played closer in the second half, but the deficit was too large to overcome. The Eagles had their largest lead of the game at 77-53 after a jumper by Hyatte with 8:31 left. UAH tried to rally down the stretch, but came no closer than 15 points. For the game, Carson-Newman shot 56 percent from the field, while UAH only hit 41 percent of their shots. The Eagles also hit 10-of-21 3-pointers. In the paint, Carson-Newman held the advantage, outrebounding UAH 39-26. Eleven of those rebounds for the Eagles came on the offensive end and led to 17 second-chance points. The Carson-Newman bench also outscored the Chargers 48-21. Carson-Newman will open South Atlantic Conference play this Saturday by taking on Lincoln Memorial University at Tex Turner Arena on Saturday, December 1 at 8:00 p.m.
