JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Eagles broke their first two-game losing streak of the season by fighting off Brevard 74-63 on Wednesday night in Jefferson City.

Junior Zach Hyatte led the Eagles with 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting, but his night could have been better. The Dayton, Tenn. Native finished 0-for-5 at the line.

Junior Andrew Johnson provided the spark for C-N in the second half. The Cairo, Georgia native had a pair of three pointers and steal-then-assist to Darren Williams to push the Eagles out for good. He finished with 10 points. No other Eagles reached double figures.

The game went back and forth for much of the first half. Brevard scored the game's first four points, only to see the Eagles answer with an 18-1 run to build an 18-5 lead.

Carson-Newman (17-6) saw its lead cut to three at the half at 40-37.

Brevard (3-22) took the lead in the second half at 45-44 a three by Joseph Chilton. The two teams traded buckets until Johnson followed his first made three pointer with a steal and feed to Williams to push the lead to 67-59.

Jonathan Whitson led Brevard with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Shane Galloway chipped in 14 points.

Carson-Newman returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Lincoln Memorial. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
