Feb. 9, 2008 JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Eagles used 62 second-half points to overcome a five-point halftime deficit and run by Mars Hill Saturday Night at Holt Fieldhouse, 103-93. Junior Jesse McMurray hit 7-of-11 from behind the arc and finished with 23 points to lead the Eagles. McMurray hit seven triples in the second half. Senior Andy Tipton added 15 points for the Eagles and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career at Mossy Creek. Carson-Newman (16-4, 7-2 SAC) trailed at the half 46-44, and fell behind by seven in the second half at 68-61, before McMurray got going. The Gate City, Virginia-native reeled off three triples to lead the Eagles during a 35-16 surge. Mars Hill (9-13, 3-7 SAC) had five players in double-figures, led by Jamaral Glen with 23 points. Glen also had nine boards. Jabreel Moton and P.J. Gore each finished with 16 as well. Scott Williams added 13 for the Eagles, while Kevin Hare picked up some of the slack for an injured Bobby Guyton, finishing with a career-high 12 points and five rebounds. Carson-Newman will face Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday night in Hickory, North Carolina.
