JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Junior Jesse McMurray knocked down five three-pointers en route to a 19-point night, as the Carson-Newman Eagles shot down Newberry , 90-71, Saturday night in Holt Fieldhouse.

McMurray (Gate City, Va.) hit back-to-back three-pointers during a 26-10 C-N run in the second half. The Eagles pushed a 40-31 lead in the second half's opening minutes out to a 66-41 margin. Newberry would get no closer than the game's final margin.

Senior Darren Williams also found his shooting stroke. Williams poured in 13 points, hitting key 3's in each half to help fuel runs.

Hot shooting helped Carson-Newman (8-2, 2-0) to survive a mistake-filled night. C-N finished 10-of-22 from long range. The three-point barrage was the difference in a game that saw a combined 53 turnovers, 61 free throw attempts, and 53 fouls.

Newberry failed to capitalize on some of key its opportunities in the rugged game. The Indians finished just 20-of-39 at the line.

Junior Andrew Johnson (Cairo, Ga.) added 13 points, including a pair of two-handed dunks. Bobby Guyton (Jessup, Ga.) and Jordan Dixon (Clinton, Tenn.) each added 10.

Clemente' Martin led Newberry with 15 points, but fouled out in only 14 minutes.

The Eagles played without Scott Williams (Macon, Ga.). The senior had 20 points in Wednesday night's win over King, but sat out the match-up with the Indians to rest a sore ankle.

Carson-Newman faces Alabama-Huntsville Wednesday night in Holt Fieldhouse. C-N won the season's first meeting with the Chargers in Huntsville in November, 86-69. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
