JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-- Brett Hontz and Tyler Wynn were the indvidual winners of the Carson-Newman baseball Eagle Challenge. The Eagle Challenge is a four-day event at the end of fall workouts to test progress made over the seven-week conditioning and lifting period. There were five teams of seven or eight players competing in seven events: the 60-yard dash, the 300-yard shuttle run, the 10-lb. medicine ball chest pass, the 185-lb. bench press fore reps, the 20-lb. iron cross, the pro agility run, and the farmer's carry. Pitcher Brett Hontz was the winning pitcher in the Eagle Challenge and the captain of the winning team which featured Wes Dozier, Cory Harless, Rory Elliott, Willie Buchanan, Matt Bigach, Andrew Berroth, and Joe Kugler. Tyler Wynn won the best position player honors in the Eagle Challenge. Carson-Newman begins the 2008 season February 1 at Augusta State.
