INDIANAPOLIS - The Carson-Newman Eagles will be the No.5 seed in the NCAA Division II South Region which begins Thursday in Tampa, the NCAA announced today. Carson-Newman (41-16), who reached the South Regional last season, will face second-seeded and rival Tusculum (40-13) in the first round of the six-team, double-elimination tournament. First pitch is at 3 p.m. at The University of Tampa Baseball Field. The Eagles earned one of the three at-large berth into the tournament, joining fellow SAC member Catawba and Florida Tech (Sunshine State Conference). Tusculum earned an automatic bid on the strength of winning the SAC Tournament in April, joining two-time defending national champion Tampa (SSC) and Stillman (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) as the region's three automatic qualifiers. C-N finished the regular season one win shy of the school-record for wins in a season (42).
