JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Senior Jason Gray's game-winning, RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh gave Carson-Newman a 4-3 win in game two, completing a sweep of visiting Caldwell Tuesday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.

Carson-Newman (23-9) rallied with two runs in the seventh to pick up its second win of the afternoon.

Freshman Cody Nix (Cartersville, Ga.) drew a leadoff walk, later scoring to on a single by senior Cory McGinnis (Morristown, Tenn.) to tie the game. McGinnis advanced to second on the throw home to try and nab Nix, leaving the Eagles with the winning run on second and one out.

Gray's game winner came with the bases loaded and two outs, after the Cougars had loaded the bases to set up the force.

Corbin Arial (WP, 4-0) picked up the win for C-N, working one and two-thirds of scoreless relief.

Senior Nick Achberger led the Eagles with two hits, including a solo home run to center in the sixth, to cut the Caldwell lead to 3-2.

The Eagles put together three-run innings in the second and eighth to grab an 8-1 win in game one.

Junior Tyler Wynn (LaGrange, Ga.) belted a solo home run in the second and Nix added a bases-loaded double in the eighth as the Eagles drummed out ten hits.

Starter Wes McIntyre (Chattanooga, Tenn.) worked four and a third to pick up his fourth win (WP, 4-1) of the season. Michael Elliott (Chattanooga, Tenn.) worked the final three innings to pick up the save.

 

 

Carson-Newman is scheduled to return to action tomorrow against Limestone, but rain could force a postponement. The Eagles are will face rival Tusculum in a three-game South Atlantic Conference series beginning Friday in Greeneville, Tennessee.
